Inspired by his compatriot Nandor Fa who was the first Hungarian sailor to come and take on the Vendee Globe three times (1992-1993 5th, 1996 – retired– and 2016 – 8th), Szalbocs Weöres, 49 is on a steep learning curve. When he was young he dreamed of the Olympic Games, but the route to the Games is complicated in his country. The Hungarian takes to triathlon and does six Iron Man, including that of Hawaii. He loves running, and took part in seven marathons making times under 3 hours. Then he returned to sailing, discovered offshore racing during the 2003 Hong Kong Challenge. A professional in rigging and othere complementary skills he worked for the South African challenge Shosholoza during the 2007 America's Cup. His first solo race is comical managing his spinnaker and his three headsails but his passion is born there and then.
