Endowed with a remarkable determination and as a tireless worker, Charlie Dalin quickly established himself as a real young talent to watch especially solo sailing. A 2006 graduate in naval architecture from Southampton he started a professional career in naval architecture but that helped augment his meticulous physical, technical and mental preparation. A  native of Le Havre who has become long time member of the Pôle Finistère Course au Large in Port-la-Forêt, he made his debut in Figaro Bénéteau in 2011. In his second season, he won the Transat AG2R La Mondiale alongside Gildas Morvan. He then won the title of Champion of France Elite in Solo Offshore Racing (2014 – 2016). Charlie joined the Skipper Macif excellence program from 2015 to 2018. After a third place in the Transat Jacques Vabre with Yann Eliès, Yann Eliès made him his replacement on the next Vendée Globe.  He went on to sign an initial  four-year partnership with Apivia (a Macif brand) on a Verdier boat into which he put so much. Dalin sailed an impeccable first Vendée Globe to cross the line first but was given second overall after time compensations were applied for those who helped in the rescue of Kevin Escoffier. And so in some respects Dalin might feel he has unfinished business and with a renewed agreement with Apivia which will run until 2026, he will race the tenth Vendée Globe on a new boat scheduled to be launched in June 2023.
