A philosophy graduate, Italian racer Giancarlo Pedote is slightly different from the mainstream, typical IMOCA skipper, if there is such a thing. He has a very methodical approach to sailing and knows how to win. He triumphed in the 2015 Transat Jacques Vabre in Multi 50 and has twice been first in Mini 6.50 French races as well as runner up in the Mini Transat 2013. Indeed he progressed through many classes before he moved up to the IMOCA class in 2017. Elected Italian sailor of the year in 2014 and 2016, he set off on his first ever round the world race in 2020 on the Vendée Globe. Aiming to break 80 days, the 5th Italian skipper was very much in or in touch with the main peloton for most of the race. And he finished in 8th position, just a few hours after the winner of the event. Author of two technical books on sailing and a DVD on solo sailing, he recently published a book on his last Vendée Globe, "L'anima nell'oceano", edited by Rizzoli of the Mondadori Group. Supported since 2007 by his title partner Prysmian Groupe, the Italian sailor is setting off for the Vendée-Arctic in Les Sables d'Olonne, the first major race before the Vendée Globe 2024.
